Not that I think for a second that human brain cells alone could endow an animal with human qualities, but the casual way that line was delivered is what creeped me out.
Last time I heard something creepy like that was when I heard about a genetic experiment with fruit flies, in which certain genes that code for what body part goes where were turned off.
Some disturbing pictures of the results were shown- it looked like the flies had been the victims of a horrible transporter accident... major 'ick' factor. One researcher CASUALLY said something along the lines of "while the flies were technically alive most turned out looking like little furry balls."
(insert shiver of horror here- and I HATE flies!)
It's sorta like an astronomer describing the capability of a new telescope by saying 'It has the resolution to resolve a freckle on your arm through your bedroom window at a distance of 100 miles.' It might be true but hardly the best way to put it!
Now, the above studies have value, and let us learn important things- but those that work on such things need to do a better job of discussing their work without horrifying the 'guy on the street'.

I have to admit that line creeped me out as well
