Helping a friend find a book
I received this email from a friend askling me to help re-discover a book she read, but can't remember its title. Among some people, I'm the geekiest SF fan they know -- but this one is beyond my l33t 5c1-f1 5k1llz:
Plotline: Near future setting, controlled environment, rains only when convenient, etc. Population is controlled by drug injections every so often. They go to a medical center, insert their arms into a hooded machine, receive the injection, go home happy. They're also genetically manipulated to an extent, bodies perfect, no anomalies. MC's name is Chip (as in chip off the old block). He has one green eye and one blue one, like his grandfather or someone back in his family, hence the name. He discovers that he can skip the injections by folding a wad of gauze over the injection site and covering it with a skin-colored patch, thus breaking free of the happies. His protag is the guy who runs the society, who has a perfect young body under a hundred year old head. He tries to bring Chip into the fold to work for him, but Chip ends up bringing down the regime. Last scene is Chip sitting in the park in the middle of the day while it's raining.
Name that tune....
Any ideas?
