I haven't located the original yet (Vanity Fair doesn't seem to have archives yet), but the leftist blogosphere is seizing on this article like a starving dog hits a steak. Not really surprising.
I would really like to see that article. I suspect the insurgents fed her pretty much what she wanted to hear. The buttons on a leftist are two feet wide and lit in neon.
As for the motivations and personalities of the insurgency, 400 Iraqis dead in various bombings in recent days, including innocent men, women, and schoolchildren. Tying bombs to retarded people. Sawing heads off on video tape. That tells me all I need to know about "motivations" and "fighting for Iraqi freedom." The Iraqis aren't buying the "Minuteman" crap any more, but I'm not surprised you can find Americans who do.
I'm sure the guy at Auschwitz whose job it was to pry gold teeth out of Jewish corpses would have an amazing life story to tell, too. Frankly, I don't give a shit.
Law of the Left: In any conflict between America and its values and any other entity, you will take the opposing side.
In the decades I have been aware enough of politics to be able to judge, I have never seen an exception to this from the organized Left, and damn few of them from individual leftists. Take it or leave it.
