I know there are several systems out there that they use that I believe are a href="http://www.volvo.com/trucks/na/en-ca/business_tools/satellite_communication/additional_functionality/ " > satellite based (If not GPS based).

I know these systems are used by companies like UPS to keep track of their assets, shipments, etc...
