re: Columbia Hills alteration & phosphorous
Yes, that's true, other exotic liquids have not been discussed. But doesn't the presence of hematite and goethite in the Columbia Hills narrow down the choices? I don't have a chemistry background, but what we've read in the NASA press releases is that water is a must for those minerals to occur.
