Space/Science » in reply to Cool. ESA may invest in Kliper

Euro-Russian space alliance

Good. The first time I heard of Klipper, I thought it was great, but it was clear the Russians didn’t have the cash to make it a reality. It occurred to me then, that Europe, or at least France and Germany certainly did have the cash, and would be getting a hell of a bargain for their investment.
I don’t know if the Ariane 5 is capable of boosting a Klipper to LEO, but if it is, the Euro-Russian space alliance would be poised to assume space dominance without breathing very hard.
Not implying intent, just noting the ability to launch a state of the art six passenger multi-mission spacecraft from equatorial Kourou, is powerful stuff indeed.
More power to them.
This is a good thing for the space community in general. ESA would no longer be dependent upon the US for space access, and could stand on their own for the first time. (Not meaning to leave out the Russians)
This realignment would add diversity, and tremendous capability to the enterprise of human space flight, while at the same time, allowing the United States to reassess and focus it’s own priorities in a way that best serves it’s own interests.
