re: Do You Know What Dunkard Beliefs Were?
I hardly know any of it, beyond that "Dunkard" is a nickname of sorts, from their practice of full-immersion baptism ("dunk"). Googling "Dunkard" gives me 27,000 hits -- here's the top one. It seems they were a schismatic branch of the Church of the Brethren.
There is one old family portrait -- taken almost exactly 100 years ago, because my grandfather is a babe in his mother's arms, and he was born in 1905. The only thing distinguishing them from Amish is a complete lack of beards.
That same grandfather became an elder (and board member) in the Presbyterian church, at about the age I am now.
