I don't recall Raoul posting this information before, but
the first 'acoustic data' recovered from another planet's atmosphere successfully occurred when the Venera 13 and the Venera 14 spacecraft returned acoustic data from the GROZA instruments onboard back in 1982.
However, unlike the recent Huygens mission to Titan, where the
esoteric 'acoustic data' was converted to actual "realistic sounds" that you could hear at the Planetary Society website, the Venera acoustic data was never converted to actual sounds that you could hear.
That's about to change.
The PS organization contacted the former principal investigator responsible for the GROZA science instruments onboard those Venera spacecraft, Doctor Leonid Ksanfomaliti, and persuaded him to dig up the 23 year-old acoustic data, and with the help of the Plantetary Society that
Venera acoustic data will SOON be converted to actual "realistic sounds" of what you might hear on the surface of Venus.
Stay tuned!....
