Actually you'd use hydrogen peroxide

The best chemical fuel for use by a Mars colony is hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide would be run over a catalyst as a mono-propellant to produce oxygen and steam. Hydrocarbons from a martian green house would be better used for lubricants, plastics and solvents.
