I agree, but I think Lucas was trying for irony when Anakin jumped to the dark side to save Padewan, which turns out to be the cause of her death. It was pretty weak. Also, they have all that tech, and can't tell if she's carrying twins or not? You'd think a Snator/queen would be able to get a decent healthcare plan even if she were trying to keep the pregancy a secret.
Padawan got the worst charachter development deal in EP 3. She went from being Queen of naboo and Senator in the republic to letting Jar Jar handle her senate responsibilities (obvioulsy they couldn't have been too difficult) and sitting around the palace with nothing to do but dream googly eyed about her husband. She turned pretty stupid between 2 and 3, so much so she couldn't see Anakin turning to the darkside. Nevermind that she brushed off his genocidal tendencies from the last movie, but still won't believe Obi Wan when he says he saw a security vid of Anakin killing Jedi kids. Then because she is still pining for Anakin after he nearly crushes her trachea, she doesn't bother to keep living for her kids. What a miserable turnaround from Episodes 1 and 2. At least we knew Anakin would turn out bad form the start.
A much better ending would have been if Anakin really did kill her, and Obiwan miraculously saves the babies using the force and R2's laser scalpel skills.
