linkGAZA, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior Islamic Jihad (holy war) leader in Gaza threatened on Wednesday to revenge on Israeli assassination of activists.

Khader Habin of the Palestinian militant group was responding to a failed Israeli missile strike in Gaza on Tuesday.

The attempt to kill an Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza signalled the resumption of Israel's targeted killing policy against militants from the Islamic Jihad group, who killed two Israelis recently in what it called a response to Israeli raids against its members.

"We can't keep silent before these crimes," Habib said, accusing Israel of never stopping its targeted killings in violation a ceasefire deal in February.

"Israel would be held fully responsible for any deterioration," he added.

Israel launched Tuesday's airstrike after arresting over 50 Jihad activists in the West Bank a day earlier.

It happened while Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas were holding a summit in
Jerusalem.

During the meeting, Sharon urged Abbas to do everything he can to disarm militants while Abbas asked Israel to implement its commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached at their first summit in Egypt on Feb. 8.
