My brother heard on the local ABC news that the Deep Impact was full of explosives meant to blow up the comet. They never bothered to read the press releases; they just made up their own story to sensationalize it. Now when everybody is out tonight to look for this big explosion and see nothing, the headline tomorrow will be NASA fizzles again. I’m exaggerating a little of course.

In a way the scientists are partially to blame for some of this. They often, in there attempts to make science interesting to an uninterested public, describe things in simplistic terms, which the news media take way to literally. They then interpret it in their own terms, which often end up fare away from the truth.
