First let me repeat my condolences to our allies over this terrible event- It is an evil of the worst kind...

It does seem that, as terrible as it was, it could have been a lot worse- from what I have heard the emergency services did their job flawlessly....

What I find difficult to accept is that they have not determined certain things:

1) What explosive was used

2) was it a suicide bombing...

These are things that are possible to determine fairly quickly, yet as far as I know these details have not been announced definitively... I have to assume the authorities know but are not talking... They probably have legitimate reasons, but it seems that releasing the type of explosive used would HELP an investigation...

Was it crude and home brewed? Then announce that fact and some of the chemicals the bomber had to have to make it... some storeowner may realize that the odd fellow he sold 10 gallons of hair bleach and nailpolish remover to might be worth reporting... A neighbor may report a chemical smell from nextdoor

Was it a commercial explosive? Announce that fact, and maybe a mine operator will notice explosives missing from his inventory...

The authorities MUST know what explosive was used by now... seems odd they would not advertise that fact- It could be a valuable clue... we are assuming, it seems, that this was al queda, but really any single loon could do this given a few thousands of dollars and a little knowledge...

(Personally my bet is that this WAS Al Queda, but there has been no real proof of this...)
