There are some quality issues to consider. When I get farm corn from the local place, I have to pick off a worm or two, and chop off the chewed sections. Doesn't bother a Minnesota boy, but freaks my kids out. Probably an issue for most consumers.
When I worked in a corn packing plant, the management was almost psychotic about quality. A long inspection belt allowed things like stray bugs and things to get picked off by the ladies working there, and put into bins. The workers were paid extra hard cash for each bug they got.
I was also on the crew one summer that had to clean the plant before first use for that year. Holy crap, was that hard. By the time we were done, you could have eaten off any surface in the place.
