There are always new "discoveries" that fail to be confirmed by independent experiments. Look at "Cold Fusion" for a very notorious example. There are many, many others. Researchers are ALWAYS biased in favor of their pet theories. That is why independent confirmation is so very essential to scientific research. Only after repeated independent confirmation is any new experimental result accepted by the Scientific Community, and for very good reason.

This does not mean that the original researchers are frauds or hoaxters. However, scientists are human, and thus human bias will necessarily contaminate research, and can be removed only when many independent and unbiased researchers confirm the result.
