In case you hadn't guessed yet,

I'm a liberal; however, I'm feeling quite complacent about this nomination. I am a person long past where abortion rights are important to me, past where environmental problems will affect me for that much longer. In other words, however his nomination (if successful and I'm sure it will be) affects this country makes little difference to me. I have only this to say to the non-voters who will be affected by these and many other issues: you gave up your right to bitch when you didn't vote. Of course, I doubt any of them are hanging around HZ so they won't read my words of contempt.

He sounds like he has a quality legal mind. I'm with the First Lady and Justice O'Connor--disappointed that he didn't nominate a woman. However, now that he is not trying to get reelected, he doesn't have to pay that much attention to gender. And perhaps that's as it should be. One or two of the ladies that may have been under consideration, might have caused me to give a damn just on general principles.

I will say this, once he is sitting on the Court, he may surprise some people. That frequently is the way, when jurists can make decisions based on how they read the law rather than on what a higher court may reverse.
