Astronauts have kept going to space until they finally were allowed to spacewalk and that's what they consider their top achievement.
Many times, they leave the office after doing it. Astronauts who spent months aboard a station always recall first their spacewalk.
It's truly a space mission within a space mission. It's also why Eileen Collins first applied for the Mission Specialist job.

And I wonder about a moonwalk in 10 years from now...The picture should be a lot sharper than it used to be, we'd be feeling the bouncing as spectators too.
