1,826 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq. Its been a bloody week. 27 soldiers have been killed during the first week in August. Meanwhile the neocons here continue to naively parrot the anecdotal rambllings of wishful thinking bloggers as if that is somehow a more accurate depiction of conditions in Iraq.
Put simply...it sucks over there. The insurgency is as resilient as ever. The rate of American losses isn't diminishing. We are spending billions of dollars which cannot be accounted for. The developing "constitution" will offer fewer rights to women than they possessed during Saddam's dictatorship. The country's infrastructure is still in disarray.
What we are observing is the consequence of the appallingly bad judgement of George Bush to go to war on the basis of an utterly failed intelligence. Its was a bad idea by a bad administration based upon bad pretenses.
Unfortunately were stuck. We cannot unilaterally pull out. Instead we have to expect that thousands more American soldiers will die in this dirty little war before we are able to bring the country to a state of stability - if that's even possible.
1,826 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq. They died because George Bush falaciously claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction it did not have. That's the pathetic reality of it. We have a group of incompetents in Washington D.C. who plunged us unnecessarily into this war and, in doing so, failed to adequately plan for the aftermath. The result is that since Bush invited the insurgents to "bring 'em on" and declared the "end of major hostilities" under banner that said "Mission Accommplished," some 1,700 of those 1,826 deaths have occurred. I guess Mr. Bush got his wish.
