The Great Raid
New film opening along with the Perseids. It chronicles the little known raid to rescue 500 American POWs, survivors of the Baatan Death March. These guys were scheduled to be executed en mass by the Japanese who had a policy of shooting or placing prisoners in pits and pouring on gasoline once American forces approached a POW camp. If only the Japanese would have just placed panties on their heads or dog collars. Based on the excellent book "Ghost Soldiers" which I read.
