...a great sign for mankind.

Russian scientists were trying to thaw out Siberia back in the mid-fifties.

Man needs more room to grow. Usable real estate will be welcome and if Alaska and Siberia become more moderate it will ease crowding in other areas as humanity continues its crusades against birth control on the right side and abstinence on the left.

It is the epitome of arrogance to claim to know what is good for either the planet or mankind. I find it ridiculous when mankind is isolated from nature as if mankind and all of man's activity are somehow unnatural.

Mankind is pure nature. Everything we do, every machine we make is natural and a part of nature. Looking at this world from an outsiders perspective, they would in no way distinguish man from the world that formed man.

It's like saying a beaver is unnatural...or an ant. "Those dang ants are messing with the "natural" state of earth again!" It's preposterous.

If the world gets warmer - great. There is no mold that earth has to fit to to be "healthy" or "natural". Such views are infantile and immature.

If the poles disappear entirely...so be it. If parts of Europe have to adopt Venetian architectural designs...that's life.

If the left keep swinging this issue around and pretending man can actually keep these events from occurring, then they're fooling themselves and wasting important time to prepare for global changes - inevitable and uncontrollable changes.

The planet will oscillate between warm and cold. By far and large the process is almost exclusively controlled by the sun. Man gives himself far too much credit if he thinks he has made even a small dent in global temperature change one way or the other.

There is no "perfect temperature" for earth. We have no way of knowing if global warming is good for the development of new species or providing more usable land for animals and more water for fish populations to reproduce and thrive in.

Hysterics aside, perhaps man should start focusing on developing technologies that can control weather and the climate. All these whining environmentalists who see man as some foreign intruder upon the earth and all man's activities as unnatural need to have their clocks wound every once in awhile. Cars are natural. Pollution is natural. Mankind is natural. The planet's prized development is mankind. When the planet can speak to us and tell us to stop building fuel-burning automobiles or to sign the Kyoto accords - then I'll listen. Until that day, mankind and all his technologies are the voice of the planet.

As always, for most proponents in the world, the environmentalist movement is really about reappropriating funds from the rich nations and distributing them to developing nations. For others it is another escape mechanism to point the fingers at others so they can avoid looking at their own problems.
