Current Events » in reply to RFID license plates. Good or Bad?

Two key words: "voluntary" and "transparent"

Maybe I want a chip in my license plate. Maybe I want a chip in my dog, or myself. If that's the case, why not? But data from those chips belong to me, and may not be harvested by law enforcement without either my knowledge and consent, or a duly sworn sub poena.
Maybe I want to sign up for InstaPass to use toll roads with ease. Or maybe my company (if I worked for a company that had a company car) wants its company cars so outfitted, to facilitate billing on business trips. If so, and the State Police or any other law enforcement agency has decided it's going to harvest these records just to have them, they must tell me when I apply so I can make an informed decision.

Maybe I don't care if they do this. Maybe I don't want them to do this. Does that mean I have something to hide? Not necessarily. It could just mean I don't like being watched. Unless they have a very good reason to watch me, they are not entitled to do so.

Same with gathering data randomly on any other embedded chip. The Fourth is the Amendment to consult; it says I have the right to be secure in my person, belongings and papers.
