Proving my point for me, I see.

As an amateur historian It only takes a cursory look at ethnological and science books from the twentieth century to see how the pursuit of intelligence and its companion "racial intelligence" up and disappeared about the time Eisenhower was elected. Scientists had little to go on. They looked at an aborigine or someone living primitively and immediately assumed he had lesser intelligence. They measured cranium size and did all they could to try and ascertain if their was some physiological reason for their apparent backward culture and lifestyle. Later geneticists and biologists looked a bit deeper and tried to bear out some statistical and biological evidence for disparity in human development. Nowadays the common assumption is all people are equal and folks living in huts and sleeping naked outdoors are doing so solely because of cultural influence and wholly unrelated to intelligence. No disparity exists at all, and if you point out the obvious - that EVERYONE is different - you are immediately set upon by the PC dogs.

When one reads a lot, and includes old science books and journals in ones reading list, one can't help but be exposed to the commonplace prejudice and universal acceptance of various human intelligence and racial traits that existed through the first half of the twentieth century, even in relatively sterile science texts. "Cunning", "lazy", "shrewd" and other personality characteristics were determined to be physiological in origin, even though no such scientific link had ever been made.

If you want some literature references I'm sure I, or Mary Anne could dig up a handful in short order. And if you're trying to paint me out as a racist just because I discuss past research and have actually read a lot of books, then you missed the point entirely and are obviously just trying to score brownie points for the "lib" team by mischaracterizing my post.

All I pointed out was that research into human intelligence, for all intents and purposes, dried up because of the perception that such research would be used to create second class citizens even among members of the same race. In the cleaning up of racism and class discrimination, which was long overdue, science decided to drop all sorts of lines of research because they were unseemly or could be interpreted as supporting some sort of racist or class based agenda.

Even Oliver Twist, was a class-based tale. That just having the blood of the middle class in his veins would make him win out over poverty and environment.

Now, in the west, we generally have moved past such racism and class discrimination. Unfortunately, for us, the rest of the world has not. In Japan, China, Vietnam, India, Saudi Arabia, Russia and many other nations are still racist and class based - some virulently so.

As a result, we still don't understand the brain. It is one of the most mysterious organs of the body that no one really understands. Consciousness is even less understood, as is it's relationship with the brain.

IQ and success, IQ and genes, heritability of IQ, migration and intelligence, allele types and intelligence - all these have been researched at one time or another.

As a liberal you should be concerned about the obvious truth of social existence - that wealth, status and power are disproportionately distributed among individuals and groups. Intelligence is the largest factor in the distribution of wealth and power.

Various environmental conditions for infants or pregnant mothers may determine a whole regions capacity for intelligence. Even today, neurologists believe that damage to nerves in the fetal brain impairs intelligence. Most children with ADD also rank high in childhood head-trauma.

If your point is that research has not slowed in studying human intelligence since the sixties, you merely need to scour Science journals before and after that period to get a statistical view of the matter.

I recommend the book Human Diversity by Richard Lewontin Copyright 1982, Scientific American Library to get you up to speed

PS
To tell the truth it gets tiresome having to defend oneself against such bogus attacks and is a perfect example of the garbage geneticists, biologists or anyone involved the study of human intelligence have to go up against. Is it any wonder they choose some PC line of research instead? Like determing just how much global warming is caused by rich, republican, white males living in the United States? Those scientists can count on having a built in cheerleading squad for every white paper they publish and every word they utter. I suppose I should be grateful for your unjustified attack- as you proved that particular point for me.
