Or -- scary thought -- maybe they are and are prevented by a lack of thumbs.
Do any of them wind up as road kill? I can't imagine they would stand a chance against a tractor trailer.
I know you think of Florida as paradise, Lindy, except during hurricane season, but give me upstate NY any day, where the most fearsome reptiles I have to deal with are snapping turtles and the occasional rattlesnake.
