clarifying the problem -
I see how, by copying &pasting the source into my post above, the formulae do appear, after a fashion (without brackets and divider lines though). However, the HZ post is already formatted in html, so the website html script is automatically 'translated'. But how can this work in Word? If I paste this script into Word, I just get 30 pages of html script.
I've checked in Preferences, Formatting and Tools but can't find anything which would set Word to receive this stuff properly
