Oh, come on, Tom

You're suggesting that ANSWER is a more powerful force than the Christian Coalition in US politics??? Even for you that is just silly, Tom, surely you're not serious?

There have been a few demonstrations in NYC and DC, of which ANSWER was one of *many* sponsors, that drew crowds of ten to a hundred thousand, sure. But if you're suggesting that ANSWER could send out a notice by itself and have 100,000 in the streets on demand, you're nuts. I'd bet the numbers actively invovled with ANSWER are rather smaller than those invovled with Operation Rescue.

Christian right groups tend not to do street theatre protests like that, but by any other measure their numbers are much larger. The number of Bush volunteers organized through evangelical churches blew away (by a factor of five or so from the stats I'e seen) the number of Deniacs or MoveOn volunteers. The viewership of the 700 Club is a very large multiple of the readership of The Nation. Christian COaltion politicians have been elected to state and national level offices (not least my local State Board of Education, where a majority have publically stated they believe in young-Earth creationism). Show me where an ANSWER type has been elected to anything?
