I have no idea how practical this is, but I was wondering how much exploration of materials equivalent to saran wrap has been done. Thermal conditions may make this idea infeasible, but does anyone know if such experiments have been attempted.
In a nutshell the idea is to have some superlightweight clingy material that becomes a dust barrier and is disposable. It seems like solar cells could have this stuff prelayered on top of it and then when a layer gets impregnated with dust, it is simply peeled off, leaving the next pristine (and transparent) layer below to handle the dust for a while. For space suits, you might think of it as a cheap garmet bag used for each excursion.
I'd be interested if anyone has heard of other unique ways (i've heard of some potentially electrostatic methods) to repel or handle microfine dust in the mars and moon environments.
Different idea to handle fine dust on moon and mars....
