You know exactly what happened Tom. Its no mystery. They thought they could score some cheap points off him for their knuckle-dragging trailer-trash audience and they weren't able to pull it off. He went in to plug his book, they tried to exploit him politically, and they were too ignorant and mean-spirited to understand this is the kind of book academics write all the time. I just read one about a year ago on the Gospel of Judas, and I mentioned Schonfield's book earlier in my response to Robert. This kind of book isn't a Liberal anti-Christian polemic, its one of a thousand rather routine scholarly attempts to view the history of Early Christianity from a new perspective. Its practically a cottage industry in Divinity departments.

This book isn't about 21st century American politics, it's about 1st century Palestinian politics. It was FOX who set themselves up for this disaster, not the intended victim; obviously they intended to catch him off guard as some Liberal Muslim despoiler of the True Faith. THEY asked HIM the questions, you can't blame him for answering them.
