15 miles......
A very good friend of mine had a California girls swim team 15 miles away from Chernobyl when the kettle blew. They were rousted in the night at gun point by troops and put on a plane with no explanation.
I know of no adverse effects suffered by any members of that team or my friend. I am aware of the many factors that could have dictated this result and I am thankful for whatever combinations protected this little group of Americans on foreign soil.
