Being an old mechanical systems designer, I think of the safety valve on a boiler or water heater -- what we call a "T&P", for temperature and pressure (either condition cause the valve to open automatically).
Done properly, the valve's discharge is piped to a floor drain where it can vent safely without scalding anyone. That's the Flame Board.
