Where a photon has been - Commentary

Last night when I went to bed, I noticed a patch of bright light on my arm. I held my hand up so this light shined on it. I realized it was moon light coming though my blinds.

It occurred to me that the very photons hitting my hand had made an incredible journey to get there. Those photons where born in the hear of the Sun. It took them time to get to the surface of the Sun (I think I read somewhere they thought is took thousands of years for a photon to make it to the surface of the Sun).

From the surface of the Sun the photons took about 8 minutes to hit the Moon.

Those photons striking my hand actually touched the surface of the Moon, then they bounced off and traveled several seconds to hit my hand, where some where reflected to my eye.

What fascinated me was something touching my hand that actually touched the surface of the Moon.

We can expand on this to include the planets we see. And then there is the stars, whose photons that strike the back of our eyes, traveled hundreds or thousands of years from another star system to get here.

More mind boggling is the origin and distant the phonons from the Andromeda galaxy have tied to them. What stories those photons could tell if they could talk. What worlds have they been near?

So, thanks to photons, we can touch the universe that we can see. Maybe you’ll see the universe in a different light. :)
