Interesting...

Hi LJK

Disk theories are plagued by unexpected consequences. Hypothesised planet forming scenarios regularly send planets on fatal inspirals into their stars requiring other processes, like in the preprint, to open up big enough gaps to alow them to survive. This new work is adding credence to the effects of electrostatic forces which are probably vital to the very early stages and the initial drawing together of dust particles before gravitational instability is strong enough to make planetesimals. Charging of the dust due to radioactives, cosmics and the solar wind means more forces than gravity were involved.
