re: where we are headed evolutionarily

If we keep Moore's law going for a while, it will be probably that brain models will be simulatable on hardware and that humans might be effectively downloaded into arbitrary information containing devices with arbitrary sensor arrays. Couple this with the idea of mass minds, or evolved superbeings made up of lots of subbeings, and you have to wonder how interested these beings will be in the physical universe. What else lies to be discovere in the ultrasmall and ultra large universe? What other dimensions/universes might we gain access to? Could we just create our own virtual universes to populate?

At the least you can certainly conceive of simply sending highly compact nanoprobes that could bootstrap an entire ecosystem and "birth" another superbeing in another star system. Their don't seem to be a lot of showstoppers(premature novae?, huge rogue asteroid?) to this madcap curve of increasing complexity that the human ecosystem is climbing.
