More current affairs than space, but fuel cells started in space first...
Hydrogen stored in tablet form
...stores the hydrogen as ammonia adsorbed in plain old salt. A gasoline tank volume can store 600 km worth of hydrogen for a car which is definitely a leap forward.
What bugs me about hyped-hydrogen stories is how the origin of hydrogen is always obscured - it'll only be "clean" once it is made via renewable energy sources, but very few news bites ever mention the down-side.
