Space/Science » in reply to Pluto Probe Arrives at Spaceport!!!

I think the MER rovers should be mass-produced

The probe carries a suite of seven science instruments to study Pluto and Charon during its fly by past the planet-moon pair.

What a waste of time. It seems like the mars rovers have been unusually successful runabouts in spite of the barren wasteland they've explored. Any probe sent on a 10-year mission should carry one or two of them. We should be landing a bunch of them on every planet and moon in the solar system, especially one that takes TEN FREAKING YEARS to get to. But it doesn't seem like it's occurred to anyone to do that. Would a "probe" to another solar system not carry a rover or two just in case it sees something interesting? They would prefer to wait 100 years for the next mission? Come on.
