re: Cyclers

From the article Ed directed us to:

A cycler might fly past the Earth at about 21,000 kilometers per hour, or roughly 13,000 miles per hour. Small taxi spacecraft carrying people and supplies would have to rendezvous with the speeding cycler. “This is sort of like a bus that doesn’t stop,” Longuski said. “When it comes by, you have to run alongside of it and grab on.”

There are advantages to a system of transport, but not if it needs three Space "Hotel" Cyclers and it takes constant adjustment. It's infrastructure we can't afford right now.

I suspect by the time we need a "train service" to Mars from Earth we will have a better system than Aldrin's Cycler. This isn't to poo poo on Buzz a great guy and very inventive.
