Car Explodes In Midvale Parking Lot

(KUTV) An explosion ripped the back off of a car in a Midvale parking lot Thursday afternoon. The blast sent debris flying and damaged other cars in the area.

According to Captain Jay Thomas of the Midvale Police Department, the owner is a plumber and had a welding torch and acetylene gas in the back of the car, which may have been leaking.

The owner and his son were two cars away when he used his remote entry to pop the trunk. Immediately after, the car exploded. Authorities believe the electronic remote sparked the explosion.

Putting acetylene into a CLOSED car sitting in the sunlight is NOT a smart move.
