It was part of the email loop that preceded the new moderating group. I think the distribution was incomplete anyway, and besides, the community should be involved. It would be a good idea to pick that up again, I agree.

I don't think that being alert to a moderator posting as a moderator more than once on a single thread on another moderator's board is being hypersensitive. I had been a little more laid-back before and the result was no clear line, followed by the Vesuvius incident on Community. I'm putting a little more backbone into my approach so that the demarcation is clearer and perhaps we can avoid misunderstandings. Or at least correct them before they show up on the Richter scale.

I'm pleased that you wanted to make a fuller explanation of your action, and heaven knows I understand that time can be short. However, I suggest that a moderator persona be confined to the one place, that is, any moderator comments of this sort can be placed as a reply to one's self in the thread. Thus the person is free to reply to other posters -- in this case, alcaray -- as him- or herself as well, with the freedom from constraint that that implies. Your remarks about pseudoscience stood perfectly well on their own without any need to reference a moderation issue. You could have posted those remarks as yourself. The additional explanation about why the post was moved could be shorter and less op-ed in nature, cool and curt, in a distinct moderator voice that would definitely set that persona apart. Even though it may be perfectly clear to you when you're speaking as yourself and when you've got your moderator hat on, it's not always clear to everyone else, regardless of name-labels. It needs to be.

Part of our learning process as moderators is figuring out how the procedures are supposed to work. There is no handbook, as you know. Separation of personae and projecting that separation to others has been a struggle for you; firm lines of demarcation is one part of it that has been difficult for me. These are both consistency issues. I'm trying to help you with yours. Please support me as I work on mine.

PS to everyone else: This is the boring procedural stuff that goes on on the moderators' board. That and, "I'll be away from my desk on the following dates..." We can make it less transparent again if you want not to be bothered.
