I used to listen to "All Things Considered" back in college.

Theme song still stuck in my head.

Deal really wouldn't work out. If you read just one blog, it would be like listening to just one radio station. Almost certainly the information would be limited, and possibly tainted by the originator.

Mary Anne, I scan a good fifty different sites a day, some more than once, and that's while I'm doing other things at the computer.

The information revolution requires that you don't get your information through a soda straw.

What blogs and other websites do for me is distill raw information down to the point where I can get a handle on it from a small sample. From there, I can proceed to sources myself. It's hard to explain.

A good example that would be familiar to readers here is "Unmannedspaceflight.com" A bunch of people who spend nearly full-time focused on a specific subject go through hundreds of photos and other items and distill out the really good stuff. In addition, they often add valuable content and processing to the original data, a sign of a good site. If something needs more focus, and I'm not sure of their interpretation, I can track back to original material and make my own judgments.
