Memory lane with Miers....
I think it is a great pick.

Just like Roberts she will fly through the Senate.
If the Democrats Block her for superficial reasons, the next Justice nomination will be of a Robert Bork clone.
Bush is a true Statesman.
The Democrats don't have anyone that comes close to Bush in terms of political stature. And Bush is running circles around them because of it.
"How can this be good for the country?" Easy.

1) It keeps the court from reversing Roe V. Wade. (Thats why Redstaters are so ticked off) 2) It will keep the court from becoming too conservative.
3) It will maintain the gender balance on the court.
This nomination is a no-brainer. I had a post awhile back about there being NO real conservatives in DC. I explained how folks he seek public office are automatically disqualified from true conservative status.
Bush is no true conservative. No one running for office is a true conservative. Roberts is not a true conservative either and I will predict that he will prove himself more Sandra Day O'Conner moderate than Scalia-style conservative.
The left should be jumping up and down for joy. Bush has made certain that the religious right will not ever gain a foothold in the courts - and has done this while maintaining a conservative lean.
Believe it or not, I think this pick will surprise everyone and be one of Bush's better judgment calls.
Bush knows conservatives will likely replace him in office. He's stacking the deck so with that in mind so when Ginsburg and other Justices retire the day wont come when Scalia is viewed as the court moderate.
It really doesn't matter if she is the most qualified... Posted by Scott Evil on 10/9/2005 9:41:41 PM
This is Bush's choice...
He's the Pres. nowhere does it say he must pick the "most qualified".
I'll reserve my final judgement on whether she is "even qualified" until the confirmation hearings...My bet is that she will prove to be more than qualified, but we won't know until we see how she holds up to Congressional scrutiny.
If she looks like a legal genious in comparison to the Senators who question her, and who make every attempt to casually dismiss her and her qualifications, then she's more than qualified.
If will be fun to see how the Senators respond to this "unknown". Will they go out on a limb and directly attack her, or will they play it safe and only imply that she is a poor chice in an indirect way that will satisfy their constituents while they rubber stamp her nomination.
I think she'll proably fly through the hearings.
You know, blindly supporting your president's every decision is risky when your president is so damn stupid...
