SDAI: "Whenever a mob gathers to use violence against others who they perceive as unjust/unfair, one has a parallel with Kristallnacht."
If the Kristallnacht "mob" were truly a gathering of out of control German folk seeking revenge for the murder of Ernst vom Rath by a 17-year-old Jewish minor (youth), your parallel could be valid. However, Kristallnacht was not, as the Nazis claimed, a display of "spontaneous demonstrations" by the German people. It was an organized attack on Jewish communities in Germany and Austria.
SDAI: "When millions of dollars of damages are done to innocent people's property by a mob, one has a parallel with Kristallnacht."
All mobs are equal, but some mobs are more equal than others.
SDAI: "Whenever you have a religious/ideological conflict enflaming violence upon innocents, one has a parallel with Kristallnacht."
Who are the innocent in a religious/ideological conflict?
SDAI: "When a large scale civilian disturbance occurs which sets a group into acting against others with unchecked aggression, breeding terror and using fear, one has a parallel with Kristallnacht."
You may have something there.
SDAI: "That no one has died yet is a miracle. As I write this, news agencies are reporting shots fired at French police. Escalation to ever greater violent acts is to be expected from limited minds that already have no problem with destruction of property. I suspect we are just seeing the beginning of a terrible chain reaction. This has the possibility to escalate FAR beyond Kristallnacht and consume all of Europe. Chirac had better get his house in order because the dominoes are all in place throughout Europe and if he doesn't Kristallnacht may appear small in comparison."
As I write this, one man has been reported to have died from his injuries.
The Nazis escalated their terror FAR beyond Kristallnacht and sought to eliminate what they considered to be subhuman in a number of European countries under their control.
SDAI: "Being a "minority" does not grant carte blanche to use violence against innocent people."
Obviously.
SDAI: "You're mirroring the actions of the enablers who looked the other way or whitewashed the violence as "understandable"--it's not understandable and its not excusable."
I believe in the rule of law, a just society and personal responsibility. Being that way, I am not inclined to excuse violence. However, that does not prevent me from trying to understand why oppressed people resort to violence.
SDAI: "The Nazis felt the Jews were "oppressors" as well and preyed upon the German people. When a Molotov cocktail comes flying through your car windshield, it matters not a whit if the thrower believes he is oppressed--he IS now the oppressor."
I'll keep that in mind.
