Probably good long-term, a problem short-term.
Bad for morale of whole team. Ultimately football is a team effort. Having a guy like Owens around kinda degrades the entire effort, unless they unite against him, and that ain't good.
Suspending him is a long-term good, as it communicates managements commitment to community.
Short-term, since they were counting on him, he was using up salary that could have been used for another wide receiver, it's a problem.
Even in pro ball, sometimes attitude can be as important as skills. You can teach many skills, can't teach attitude. And, I know, you can't teach a guy to be as good a receiver as Owens, but you can teach someone to bring as much to the team effort.
My thoughts.
