Tomorrow my family and I will go to the Cenotaph downtown and join the hundreds of others to stand in the rain in honour of those who have served to help keep us all free. The parade of honour will be led, as always, by the old Veterans, grey and weathered but proud and upright (I hope the blind fellow makes it again this year with his seeing eye dog), followed by younger Vets, many wearing light blue Peacekeeper's berets; then the RCMP columns in their scarlet tunics and stetsons, and the cadets, Army, Navy and Air, and finally the little cubs and brownies, their young faces solemn as they march too.

The Cenotaph honour guard of cadets stand, head bowed, unmoving through the long ceremony of speeches by dignitaries and the laying of countless wreaths and finally two minutes of silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, broken by a lone bugler's Taps.

Sometimes, weather permitting, a small squadron of vintage Harvards (Texans) overflies the service, their big radial engines roaring, one space in the formation empty.
