re: I buy the groceries.
I'm not surprised. Are you a good cook?
Tell me what you're good at.....
A lot of low to middle income families have both partners working that come home to screaming hungry kids. After a long stressful day, the easiest thing to do is to bring it home already cooked.
Cooking is a luxury. By the time you buy it (30 minutes), cook it (30 minutes), eat it (15 minutes) and clean it up (30 minutes), it's all one can do to help the kids with their homwork (if the brain is still functioning and patience and energy abounds).
If Dad's looking at you with that evil eye, there are times when you wish you were somewhere else.
