This is A Surprise?
Chirac brainwashed most of his country into believing that bribes and economic interests had nothing to do with France's antiwar stance, that the term "severest consequances" in a UN threat resolution did not mean war, and that ignoring UN resolutions was good for the UN. Doesn't sound like a nation full of critical thinkers to me.
