re: Why a cave?
There was a lot of speculation from the earliest overhead shots that the extremely dark area that's come to be known as "Ultreya" was some sort of cave opening or large abyss. Recent shots seem to indicate it's simply an area of dark rock or sand as has been seen in other areas around Husband Hill.
