The F-117A represents 1st (or 2nd, depending on whether you count the SR-71 as 1st) generation stealth technology.
I view the F117A as the second generation "stealth" aircraft. The SR 71 was the first. I've never been quite sure if the low rader profile of the SR was intentional or a lucky design bonus. Which in makes the F22 a third gen product.
I still wish it didn't cost so damned much.
