Good find.

The download (73MB!!) copy seems to be marked up, but I'm not sure by who (NYT?) It's going to take a while to check it out. It's searchable, Thank God, and not one of those damn JPG PDFs.

I found this chart on raw numbers.

Key questions, real ones, not rhetorical:

- Did Obama's buildup to 100,000 troops change anything significantly?

- Would pumping 100,000 troops in there five years earlier have changed anything? Did we miss a window, or was there never a window in the first place?

- While the military would not have been divided had Iraq been left alone, isn't this also true of Al Qaeda and other anti-American forces? Every militant and terrorist that flowed to Iraq was one that was not in Afghanistan.

Future installments of this history project will be very interesting. I'm going to look around and see if something's come out since 2009. Thanks!
