Back in the 50's and 60's it was still pristine, and very beautiful. That was before it became over-commercialized and the casinos came in bringing the mob, drugs and bikers. The crime rate has soared and it's tawdry now. Hotels are built as skyscrapers right by the Falls. I don't enjoy it any more, it's really quite nasty under all that natural beauty.
My dad used to work with Ontario Hydro controlling the gates on the Niagara River. As a young girl, we would go with him on his nite shift and walk out into the middle of the rushing Niagara River on this long, long pier and watch him open and close the gates. It was incredible. So is standing on the BRINK of the Falls and watching tons and tons of green water rushing over the edge. As a little girl, my brother and I used to climb down the Niagara escarpment below the Falls and crawl out on the shale by the river. It was exciting. Whenever I go back, I go hiking along the escarpment with friends.
One of the areas that was neat when I was little was an arcade that was under the Rainbow Bridge. THAT was where the museum was that held the mummies. I hope they have footage on it in tonight's program, as it will bring back memories. I wonder if that's why I have such an interest in Egyptology as an adult?

It was a great place to grow up
