Experienced this one first-hand...
Hailstorm Strikes Calgary - September 7, 1991. A supper-hour storm lasting 30 minutes dropped 10-cm diameter hail in Calgary subdivisions, splitting trees, breaking windows and siding, and crushing birds....
The property damage was impressive, but the harm to wildlife and pets was heartbreaking. There were literally peices of birds scattered here and there on the ground, and many animals lost vision because of hail striking their eyes. The worst we faced personally was some dented siding, because thankfully our cat was inside at the time. The largest hailstone I saw was perhaps two inches in diameter (4 - 5 cm).
