We have a DSL (which I pay for) for my daughter. Several months ago it ceased working. Daughter said she would deal with it and started using dial-up in the interim - and no, she did not want help from me. Daughter kept saying she would deal with it for a while - and no she did not want help from me. Then said she had done all diagnostics possible and was stumped and would call for support - and no, she did not want help from me. Then she just got cranky when I asked for status (sounds like I was perpetually nagging, but I really was not) - and no, she did not want help from me. She can be stubborn at times. Can't imagine where she gets that from!
I finally persueded her to let me have a look. I poked around in the software installed with the DSL and found an option and sub-option etc. (all the while, my hovering daughter telling me she had tried all of that). Found something called reset and clicked it. DSL back in minutes. Daughter guardedly grateful.

I had a similar experience recently (not to steal your thunder)
